The Psychology of Evaluation: From Exam Anxiety to Organizational Learning

Image
Many staff experience evaluations as if they were exams, creating anxiety and often leading organi z ations to focus only on positive results for donors.  Findings are frequently left unused, and challenges are seen as weaknesses rather than opportunities to learn.  By integrating a Utilization-Focused Evaluation approach into other relevant methods, evaluations can become practical, actionable, and truly helpful for improving programs, without adding unnecessary burden on staff. Creative Economy Outlook, 2024, UNCTAD

During the weekend, I read the   Creative Economy Outlook 2024   to learn more about the creative and cultural sectors in the economy. OECD/INFE Toolkit for Measuring Financial Literacy, Inclusion, and Well Being 2026

Image
As the very first document to share in 2026, I want to highlight the   OECD/INFE Toolkit for Measuring Financial Literacy, Inclusion, and Well‑Being 2026, which was just released today (13 Jan 2026) and is fully up to date . This updated toolkit provides a practical and comprehensive approach to assessing financial literacy, inclusion, and well‑being. National institutions can use it as is or adapt its methodology to suit their own programs and projects.  In my view, it is more than just a technical instrument. The detailed questions and carefully structured approach offer rich insights and valuable learning opportunities for anyone seeking to better understand and strengthen financial capabilities. I believe it is a resource that can guide reflection and action, helping both organizations and individuals learn more about financial education and inclusion.
